If you take a look at the fastest road bikes on the planet, you’ll quickly find that the vast majority of these models boast advanced composite — often carbon fiber — frames. And while this allows for an incredibly lightweight two-wheeler, these framesets often come at an incredibly steep price. Wanting to deliver the high-performance capabilities of a carbon-framed road bike in a more affordable package, Specialized has painstakingly developed what it’s touting as the fastest alloy road bike of all time.
The latest edition of the bikemaker’s Allez Sprint, this alloy-framed model benefits from a host of advancements found on the Specialized Tarmac SL7, as well as from the use of a lightweight yet sturdy alloy construction and the company’s Smartweld technology — the latter of which affords improved aerodynamics, power transfer, and handling. Using the Tarmac SL7’s World Championship-proven geometry, this alloy frame has been paired with a hydroformed bottom bracket and down tube that are made from a single piece of billet.
In addition to featuring the Tarmac SL7’s carbon fiber seat post and carbon fiber fork, the bike also gets a host of high-end componentry including DT R470 disc alloy wheels, Shimano 105 shifting and hydraulic disc brakes, dropped seat stays, a Body Geometry Power saddle, integrated cables, and the most complex alloy head tube that Specialized has ever designed. These updates and upgrades collectively allow the newest Allez Sprint to be some 41 seconds faster over a 25-mile trek than the outgoing Allez Sprint model.
Available now, the Specialized Allez Sprint is priced at $1,700 for the a la cart frameset and $3,000 for the complete Allez Sprint Comp road bicycle. Specialized is also offering an ultra-top-shelf limited-edition version of the Allez Sprint for $6,800.
